What is Fly Fishing?
Fly fishing is a method of angling whereby fishermen use artificial flies to catch the fish by casting with a fly rod and line. The technique of "casting the fly" involves using the lightweight fly line, nowadays made of carbon or plastic to land the fly in a precise area of the water. This is one of the main differences between spinner and bait rods, which use heavy weight on the line to cast lures, bait, etc.
The flies themselves are possibly the most important and exciting part of fly fishing and are often made from interesting materials and exotic colours to represent bugs, flies or other insect like creatures which the fish will be attracted to. It is tradition that the flies are handmade using string, wire and various other materials bound around a hook with thread. This is more commonly known as "fly-tying."
